Maison Alphonse-Desjardins

You are here

Description

This Gothic Revival house (1883) was home to Alphonse and Dorimène Desjardins, founders of the first credit union in America. This is where they put the final touches on their business plans and where the first transactions were conducted for the “Caisse populaire de Lévis”. Painstakingly recreated, visitors are greeted in a historical setting that shows what the Desjardins' family home looked like in 1906. The visit ends with a permanent exhibit on the origins of the cooperative financial system. Take the occasion during your visit in the old Lévis, to visit the exibits at Edifice Desjardins, located at 59 Bégin. You will discover the historical heritage of Desjardins Movement from 1930 to 2000 and the temporary exibit Innovating Through Cooperation. You'll discover, by means of an interactive wall, Desjardins's most recent innovations since the year 2000.
